„We can‘t keep doing this, Elena. You need to choose. Now.“
Damon‘s words were echoing in my ears as I was staring into the green eyes of the man before me.
„Stefan…“ I started, but the words just wouldn’t come out. Every part of me felt numb. My whole body just wouldn’t move. „Stefan, I need to tell you something..“ Tears started rolling down my cheeks.
„Don‘t. Just don‘t.“ He had already figured it out. He had known from the very beginning, and I was so foolish for playing with both of them. This needed to end. Who was I to torture them like that? I took a deep breath, feeling more confident now. I just needed to say it, the simplest way I could. No matter what I say, it wouldn‘t hurt less.
„I love you, Sefan“. I heard myself saying it, not able to recognize my own voice. „But I love him too. The difference is, I am in love with him.“. More tears started rolling down my face. I looked at the man before me. His bright green eyes were filled with tears, as well. I didn‘t have anything more to say to him. I didn‘t know what else I could say. I felt like I was going to faint. I kept walking and walking, I didn‘t know for how long, and I didn‘t even realized when I had bumped into someone. I looked up, and my eyes locked with the piercing blue ones. I could recognize those eyes everywhere.
„What happened?“ I saw how his face became worried in a number of seconds as he carefully caressed my cheeks with his thumb.
„I chose you, Damon. “ These were the only words I could think of. The surprise took over his face. He was so shocked he couldn‘t even say a word. He actually thought he didn‘t have a chance, I finally realized.
„I love you.I am in love with you“ , I felt the need to say it. He had said it so many times, and now I could finally say it back. I felt the relief washing over me, as his mouth slowly blossomed into one of few real, genuine smiles, I had managed to pull out of him. His smile grew bigger and bigger, and I couldn‘t stop myself from giggling. He looked so happy, as he took me in his hands and started spinning me.
„You‘re mine.“, i heard him whispering in my ear, while he was still spinning me. I felt the happiness filling my whole body. I felt free as a bird, I felt like I could do anything, as long as he was by my side. And when I looked into his blue eyes again, now calm and smiling, I knew I had made the right choice.
